The sad truth is that domestic violence and animal abuse frequently occur at the same time.
While Harmony House upholds ADA/FHA guidelines for emotional support and service animals, we do not currently have the capacity to shelter pets. If your animal is an emotional support or service animal AND it is up to date on its vaccinations, please discuss this with an Advocate during your hotline call. Arrangements can be made, with proper documentation, for your animal to enter shelter with you at the time of your arrival.
If your animal is a pet, please consider the following:
- Is there a friend or family member who can care for the animal temporarily?
- Add your pet to your safety plan and prepare a “bag” for your pet if you need to leave quickly.
- Consider boarding your pet while you are in shelter. Harmony House case managers have access to community partners who provide boarding services that may be able to help.
