With the order to shelter in place, many domestic violence survivors will find themselves in an even more vulnerable and dangerous position as they are asked to stay in close proximity to their abuser 24/7. As access to services becomes more limited in the coming days, those experiencing domestic violence should take steps to protect themselves as much as possible. Some resources available to you include:
- Call the Harmony House hotline at 417-864-SAFE or the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 if you need advice and help.
- You may also access the Missouri Crisis Line at 1-888-761-HELP (4357) and the Deaf Crisis Line – 321-800-3323 (VP) if needed.
- Follow your safety plan or create a safety plan. Harmony House advocates can assist with safety planning or you can find an interactive guide to safety planning here.
- Reach out to family or friends to develop a signal or code word if you need help or to schedule a check in if they have not heard from you in a few days.
- Call 911 if you are in imminent danger.
- Contact the Greene County Family Justice Center at 417-799-1500 for help with restraining orders or other legal matters.
- Make a plan for safe shelter with friends/family or in a motel if you must leave
- Access resources available if you are laid off or lose your job here
Harmony House will continue to have advocates available 24/7 to assist survivors and our hotline will remain open. Shelter services will be limited as we enforce strict social distancing to protect current residents. The shelter is currently at capacity and will most likely remain at or near capacity for the near future.
We are here for those impacted by domestic violence and will do everything possible to help survivors remain safe.
