Nearly 120 people — prosecutors, attorneys, medical professionals, school district representatives, victim advocates, law enforcement, City Council members and abuse survivors — spent Tuesday and Wednesday learning about the Family Justice Center model and planned how to create and sustain a "one-stop shop" for victims of abuse in Springfield.
Springfield has reached a six year high for domestic violence. As domestic violence continues police and Harmony House are now seeing a new issue, homicides.
An effort to combat domestic violence doesn't seem to be enough -- as numbers continue to grow in the area.
The Family Justice Center and will be housed on the second floor of the Greene Co. Courthouse. It's goal is to bring together law enforcement, attorneys, health care professionals, and abuse counselors among others for a one-stop shop for domestic violence survivors.
